Not all that far from me maybe 35-40 minutes and worth every second. If you never been to a drive in you gotta expirience it. I'am gonna make it a point to go at least once a summer.

I love Shankweiler's. As a child I lived less than 5 minutes away and spent much of my summer weekends there. Very little has changed and that is a great comfort. The biggest thing I miss is the speaker boxes. It was great walking around and with them all turned up even going to the bathroom or walking the movie was heard. The sound though not the best was classic and really added the authenticity of a drive in. I do know that they were no doubt costly and difficult to repair, but I miss them. Also as a child I remember the swings and the see-saws which are not longer present. Even the benches and stationary speakers that we used to site on in the front row have been removed. Other than those few changes so little has changed making it my favorite drive in!

This is gonna be my first time going to your drive in. I haven't been to a drive in since I was a young girl. My friend told me about your drive in. So On saturday will be my first of MANY Visits. I miss the good old days. Thankx for still doing what you do to keep the family business going. It means a whole lot to me, brings back many wonderful memories with the family when I was a kid. What have you done with the classic neon sign (like in the top left corner of this page) ?? Will you re-vive it and put it back again ?

Reply: The sign is being completely restored, painted and overhauled. I guess you can say, re-built while we had to take it down to be moved for the Penn Dot - North Whitehall, Rt. 309 Improvement Project.

Be assured that it will be put back up for next season or possibly even later this season, once the Rt. 309 & Shankweiler Road improvements are completed,
