Actually I was doing some research on family history for the Shankwiler's in PA and came across the story of your Drive-in in the Los Angeles times! I really didn't know that drive ins existed any more! I was thrilled to see one did and that possibly related(?). Anyway, we used to have one here and I loved it. How lucky and blessed that you have one! A drive in is a true thing of the past and being able to go to one should be an experience everyone should have the opportunity to do! Thank you for keeping the Drive in alive for people to enjoy!

I saw my first drive- in movie, one of the Herbie movies,in ohio when I was about 6 years old. It was such a pleaseure to give my children age 6 and 8 the same experience last year when we came to your drive-in to see "Herbie the Love Bug 2". Thanks for keeping the tradition alive... and affordable :)

Shame on you! Your website says come early - but you don't say HOW much early. We drove two hours, we were 2 HOURS early, you sold out. Ok, but if this happens so often, why not advise people - especially people traveling far - that two hours early is not enough? Also, why not put a 'sold out' sign on the main road? or under your marquee? Why do you make people pull in your driveway and turn around, which takes a very, very long. And it's dangerous with so much traffic! not good. not good at all. A wasted evening of 5 hours for nothing.

Reply: We appreciate ALL entries in our guestbook and will respond to those that require it. It is difficult to respond to these type of posts and we receive many comments in the form of e-mails.
It is difficult to respond because we cannot possibly explain, in detail, what a new customer should anticipate. Every evenings situation and business is different as the program, the weather, other outside events, etc., etc. are a determining factor.

First, we DO NOT like to have to tell anyone that we are SOLD OUT. However, as with any entertainment venue, our capacity has a limit.
Secondly, I assume by the date of this entry, that you were at the thaeatre on the first Saturday night of the opening of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" and "Cars" as the second feature.
This program contained the number one film, "Cars" and was the opening weekend of the much anticipated "Pirates", destined to be the number one film.
We were prepared. Generally on a Saturday night we will open our Box-Office 2 1/2 hours (6:30 PM) before showtime however, as anticipated, we had to open at 5:30 since there was a line of cars already on the major highway detering the flow of normal traffic. This is an extremely unusual situation. We will usually sell out with popular films on Friday & Saturday evenings. Never this early. We were sold at by 7:15. An unusual situation, impossible to relate in any form of advertising.

As far as signs or our method of turning cars around to exit when we are filled: Rt. 309 is a State Highway, Shankweiler Road is a Township Road, west of Rt. 309. Our entrance way is the safest way to turn cars around, when instructions are properly followed. We ARE NOT permitted to be on Rt. 309 and signs have been found to not be read or understood by MOST drivers. We had, in the past posted a sign informing drivers that we are SOLD OUT. It resulted in various traffic accidents which have not occured since the signs have not been used. We cannot control what vehicle drivers do with the operation of their vehicles however, we can instruct drivers to safely execute safe driving manevers, if executed properly. The procedure used is the method prefered and approved by the State Police.

My friend and I drove over an hour, to go to the drive in and to be at the oldest in America. It was worth every mile, minute and dollar. Will be back again. Next time bringing more blankets for the bed of the truck. Thank you very much for keeping this alive for generations to come.
