You're going to get a chuckle out of how I found you when we live way up here on the west coast of BC. I read a novel "Popcorn and Kisses" by Kasey Michaels and your drive-in was used as the idea for her story. I grew up with drive-in's in Calgary,Alberta so this story and your history really intrigued me. I am so happy to see a bit of our heritage preserved in your theatre. Keep up the great work and who knows one day when we make our cross America trip, we may just show up to meet you in person.

Happy New Year from the west coast of Canada!

After living in the Lehigh Valley for 16 years, I enjoyed many evenings with my wife and son watching the movies. It was a pleasure to be able to watch first run movies in an enjoyable setting. I miss those days very much. Saturday evening in the summer meant dinner at Valley Pizza and then a 1 minute drive to Shankweiler's. We always arrived early to get our favorite spot right next to the barrier fence in front of the projection room windows. The security guard (who probably wasn't really needed anyway, since it was always a pleasent experience) knew us by our vehicle and always said hello. Hope to come back in the future and watch another movie. Don't ever close. Thanks for the memories.

I am so excited to find a drive in theater close by. My kids have no idea how fun and memorable they are. Come spring of 2006 they will.

Thank you so much for trying to keep the good old days alive.

Enjoyed the experience, thanks. But Shankweilers seems to only play "family" films. Certainly, cornering the children's market is key to turning the honest dollar, but I argue that by turning the place into a children's entertainment center, you are changing the dynamics of what the drive-in experience once was. It becomes a parody. Likely, I will return regardless, but would it be financial suicide to play an R-rated flick every once in a while?

Reply: First of all, you mention a "Family" oriented establishment and then mention a "Children's" establishment. You were right the first time. Shankweiler's is and will always be aimed at "Family" Entertainment that is "Children" friendly. We will occasionally show (PG-13) rated films that we feel are commercially and/or family acceptable.
As far as taking any risks towards other films, perhaps that is one of the reasons that there are ONLY 400 Drive-In Theatres left in the United States when once there were over 4000. I have been in this business for over 37 years and I have seen the demise of 12 other Drive-Ins in the Lehigh Valley area.

We just discovered this gem of a place! What a fabulous time our family had. We are only sorry that we didn't learn of it at the beginning of the summer. We are already making plans with our family friends to come up next summer! We can't wait!

We are so excited to find out that there is a drive-in within driving distance. We usually take our young children to the one in Danville, Pa when we are up there for a visit to Knoebels. They are so excited to find out that we are actually going to one not too far from where they live. It should be real treat for them.

I really love this drive-in! The only problem is that they don't allow small, well-trained dogs. I still go to some movies there, but it makes me disappointed that my favorite companion can not come.

Reply: Owners Note: We do not permit any animals since all the owners of good, well trained animals, appear to take advantage of our generosity. I do not know where animal owners think it is their given right to bring their beloved animals to our establishment just for us to have to clean up after them.

We just happened to be driving through from visiting some boyhood memories of my husband's in McAdoo, Pa. Imagine our surprise when we saw the drive-in still was thriving. Although it is the end of the season we will definitely watch your website and come back next spring!!

Thanks

Nice to see a drive in that can stay alive and still manage to keep prices reasonable. My wife and 2 kids get together with another couple with kids and it makes a nice night.
thank you.

I've been visiting Shankweiler's for the past few years with a good friend. Since we now live far from each other the long drive gives us great time to catch up before the show. This place is truly a gem and undoubtedly wothy of an hour drive or more!
